Most organisations these days want to have a “high performance culture”. But what is a “high performance culture”, how do you get it and more importantly how do you sustain it? Despite considerable research on the topic there is no definitive answer.

There are however ways in which organisations can increase overall performance and help individuals achieve peak performance. Reflect on the following questions and see what your assessment of your organisation is –

  • Performance is directly linked to business strategy. Today’s high performance is not necessarily tomorrow’s high performance – performance is context sensitive. Therefore are your people’s performance goals/targets always correctly aligned with the business strategy and are they regularly reviewed to make them so?
  • Does your approach to performance management reflect your organisational culture? If not why not? Employees and managers will not engage in a process that runs counter to culture.
  • Do you have a clear, easy to understand performance management process? Over complex, time consuming systems are not used. People are too busy!
  • Do your managers have the capability to effectively performance manage? Have they been well trained and when necessary, can they effectively have difficult conversations? Do they understand and can they use your HR processes for talent development and also for exiting under performers?
  • Do you have a high level of employee engagement? Are employees proud to work for your organisation and do they regularly go the extra yard? Do you all share the same sense of purpose?

If you have answered positively to all the above questions you are probably already well on the way to having a high performance culture, but if not and you’d like to know more about how we can help you improve employee performance then please contact us.
